Curriculum Mapping

Through our work with Comprehensive School Reform we have spent a tremendous amount of time laying out all of our courses.   Here is the process:

  1. A teacher has a set of benchmarks (objectives) that need to be covered in a year.
  2. The teacher takes each of these benchmarks and places them on a calendar of when they will be taught.
  3. The teacher allows sufficient time for these to be attained by students.
  4. The teacher links these benchmarks with the resources that will be used (textbooks, computer programs, literature, experiments etc.).
  5. The teacher develops an assessment (test, project etc.) that will be used to measure whether the student has attained the benchmark.
  6. This is all planned and laid out ahead of time.

This process can take a very long time and is continually 'tweaked' to make it more effective.
